Our Heroes

This quest. This need to solve life's mysteries. In the end, what does it matter when the human heart can only find meaning in the smallest of moments? They're here. Among us. In the shadows. In the light. Everywhere. Do they even know yet?

Graveyard Shift Empty
PostSubject: Graveyard Shift   Graveyard Shift EmptyTue Feb 02, 2010 4:52 pm

Jack stood in the bathroom of Mcdonalds. He held a large mop in one hand and a bucket in the other. He could feel a splash hit his clothes after he dropped the bucket down. He sighed but didn't have the energy to give any other emotional response. No, instead he simply began doing his job. Cleaning the bathrooms was always his least favorite part of his job. Of course, it was everyone's least favorite. He sniffed, the smell was almost unbearable. "How could a stench so foul even come from the human body?" He thought to himself. He covered his mouth with his sleeve and began to mop the floor up.

After successfully cleaning the floor and the toilets, he took a dash right out of there as soon as he could. It smelled a little better after being cleaned but there was still the aftermath of the stench. He looked around, there was no customers because it was the graveyard shift. There was only one other person there, his co-worker and the assistant manager of the store. Jack so cleverly gave him the nickname 'Ass Man'. He plugged in his IPod headphones and began listening to music. He occasionally needed something to take him away from his boring life. He enjoyed music because a lot of songs always had an exciting story to tell, one that if you're looking past all the cool guitar riffs, actually has some sense of wisdom and meaning. He sat down for a moment, there was no one going through the drive through because it was so late so they were completely dead. He always thought it was stupid that they had to work so late when everyone else was either sleeping or doing something that didn't involve Mcdonalds. He left his mind drift as he listened to Bob Marley.

He felt a slight tap on the shoulder continuously that was starting to bother him. It was the assistant manager, but he was too busy drifting off to notice right away. He quickly took the headphones out of his ears. He stretched for a moment and stood up. He could tell that he was about to be lectured. "Just taking my break." Jack said quickly before the man could speak. He began taking out a cigarette, as if he was going to smoke it, and remembered that it would probably get him fired if he even came close to lighting it, so he put it away with disappointment.

The manager walked away, confused, but not willing to waste the time. Jack plugged himself back in and continued to listen. After a few minutes of this passed, he heard a loud thump come from right behind him. It took him a while to turn around and look, as he didn't want to make a fool out of himself if it was nothing. However, he changed his mind, and he turned around only to see the assistant manager on the ground, unconscious. Out of instinct, he immediately tried to light up his hands with flames and get ready to defend himself, however, for some unknown reason it wasn't working. He couldn't create fire. Then he attempted to fly his way out of there and that didn't work either. There was nothing he could do. Without powers, he was just an insignificant victim.

"Show yourself." He said calmly. There was nothing he could do.
